Red on Blue

With a couple of Large Red Damselflies having emerged this week, they have been maturing up in the Grape Hyacinths that are around the pond. This is one of my early favourite times of the year when they perch up against the beautiful blue colours of the plant which in turn, can provide some fantastic photo opportunities. With most of the country still on lockdown, I have been spending most days when the weather allows out in the garden and this has given me plenty of time to take a fair few photos (enough for a few blog posts) of the Large Red Damselflies as they rest up. Thankfully, the weather has been very kind this week and I have been able to enjoy capturing and studying these superb little damselflies during the early morning sunshine. Armed with a bean bag to rest the camera on and a few cups of tea, it has been quite lovely enjoying the weather and photographing them as they often sit for ages soaking up the sun. The result I hope is a number of photos showing them off well against the blues and greens of the plant and vegetation. With the temperatures warming up this weekend, I expect there to be a few more emerging. They are all in the shallows ready to emerge any day now. My next post will be a few more shots photographed around the Grape Hyacinths. They are not around for long so I am making the most of the situation and time that I can spend with them.

  3. Having been a photographer for 70 years I understand the complexities in taking your kind of photo's Marc. Even with the advantages of modern equipment your photo's continue to amaze me. Sunday is supposed to be good, weather-wise, so I will look forward to your Monday's blog. Stay safe, Mike.

    1. Many thanks Mike for your kind words. With all the time at the moment, I can be extra fussy with the photos. I'm just thankful I have a garden in these times. Without it, I would be going mad.

  5. Given that there is every chance that I won't see a single dragonfly or damselfly this season, Marc, I'm going to be relying on your fabulous photography, like this set, to keep my spirits up. Thank you!!

Take great care, and keep well - - - Richard

    1. Many thanks Richard. I'm sure at some point (hope) that we will all get out to photograph the birds and dragonflies. In the mean time, I'm virtually living in the garden most days so will try my best to capture what emerges from the pond. Should have a few more species in there. Stay safe.
