Despite the beautiful weather today and thoughts of more dragonfly photography, the day has been spent with the family but yesterday whilst watching the Common Blue Damselfly emerge, as the weather warmed up many more could be seen climbing up the grass stems and making their first flights as adults. I managed to find a few still drying out which gave me the chance to get a number of shots of this species. Although 'common' they can be still quite tricky to get near and get a decent image off so I made the most of the opportunity. One thing I did notice which was quite funny was that in most circumstances when I approached a Damselfly they would move and hide behind the grass stems, as I moved to a new position so would they again. This continued and on some occasions made some individuals very hard to approach. Eventually with a bit of patience I ended up with the shots I wanted.

Hopefully I can get out for another session tomorrow morning for a while. Not sure whether to go hunting for more emerging Common Blue Damselflies or try my luck at Westbere for a Broad bodied Chaser or Banded Demoiselle.

Brilliant photography, macro is a benefit you can't do without.
ReplyDeleteLovely job Marc, you'll be keeping that Macro lens after all then ?
ReplyDeleteIf you take a member of the family out with you, they could distract the damsels while you get the right angle on them :-)
