The Late Birder Catches the Owl!

With a lovely sunny and almost windless afternoon, I made a rushed visit to Reculver after work where I hoped to see one of the wintering Short eared Owls at the Oyster Farm. I arrived at 3.20pm and walked out along the seawall to where I could get a good view from. A scan of the Oyster Farm revealed a few birders/photographers already in position and as I continued to look, I picked out 1 Short eared Owl (83) in flight over the fields. I watched for a while as it slowly flew over the area, pausing occasionally before diving down out of sight. After a brief chat with a few birders and the light already starting to go, I wandered back towards the car where a few Redshank were seen along with a couple of Mute Swan. Only a brief visit but a welcome part of the day.

    1. Cheers Richard. It seems everyone else has found them now. I walked down the other day to find a few photographers in position. I just hope they don't get hassled. The only problem to putting photos up on here with the location.
