The sun was shining for most of the day whilst I was at work until about 4.30pm when I decided to call in briefly to East Blean Wood to see if I could see my first Heath Fritillary of the year there. I was not too optimistic as I arrived there with clouds covering the sky and no sign of the sun but the temperature was quite warm so I gave it a go. I had a wander around an area I saw them in last year but despite a quick look nothing was seen. I then drove to the main car park where after parking I could see a photographer with his camera trained on something. This was the luck I needed as he was photographing a Heath Fritillary, my first of the year in these woods and nearly a month later than previous years. He had seen a few when the sun was out but with the dark clouds above us he decided to call it a day and went off. I then spent a few minutes grabbing some shots in poor light as you can see but nonetheless they are not too bad considering the light and it was nice just to see my namesake of the butterfly world. I look forward to the weekend where hopefully I can return for some sunny shots and maybe that camera will be ready soon, hurry up please!!
