An Evening Session at Reculver

With a ringtail Montagu's Harrier and Short eared Owl being seen earlier in the week at Reculver I planned to meet Derek Smith tonight at 7.30pm where we hoped we could connect with these 2 species. On a quite sunny evening with a light wind we viewed the area south of the Oyster farm for an hour until it started to get dark. Despite constant scanning we could not relocate the Montagu's Harrier but suspect it may still be in the area and hopefully it may give itself up in the next few days. The highlight tonight was seeing the Short eared Owl (151) hunting distantly along the embankment, a good supporting cast was also noted including 2 Marsh Harrier, 1 Barn Owl, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Peregrine was seen sat in a field, the photo below being taken last year, 1 Grey Partridge could be heard, 1 Grey Heron and as we made our way back to the cars 2 Little Owls were on the perimeter fences of the caravan park.
