I Didn't Expect That Today!

There was no birding planned for the day today, the grandparents had the kids and Michelle and I had planned to go to lunch and then take a walk along the coast. This was kind of interrupted when I received a call from a birder alerting me that he had found a female White spotted Bluethroat on the north coast, It was unfortunately not at Reculver though! I was happy to let it go but Michelle decided after lunch to take a walk and look for the Bluethroat, I don't think she had consumed any alcohol by this point so we hopped in the car an off we went. On arrival I made my way to the area concerned and after a few minutes of looking a small bird jumped up on to a fence, it was of course the female White spotted Bluethroat. I spent the next 15 minutes getting fleeting glimpses as it moved low through the bushes but it seemed to spend a lot of time in a garden tight against the bushes. Unfortunately no shots of the bird but the finder has asked me not to broadcast the location of the bird as it was in a private gardens most of the time. Whilst also in the area I noted 5 Swallow going through and 1 Goldcrest in bushes. You know its been a good day when you have seen a Bluethroat in Kent, this bird being my 3rd with males seen at Dungeness and Oare Marshes in previous years.
