All 'White' at Reculver

With the migrant season in full swing I made a quick 20 minute visit before work to Reculver where I checked the bushes around the towers noting 8 Willow Warbler, 1 Blackcap and 1 Whitethroat. Later after work this evening I drove over to Reculver in the sun and walked from the towers to Coldharbour with a quick look at the bushes at Chambers Wall. Despite the strong wind I noted a few birds including 6 Oystercatcher, 4 Ringed Plover, 4 Sandwich Tern, 2 Turnstone, 8 Meadow Pipit, 7 Redshank, 7 Shelduck and near the green wall there were a good number of Wagtails on the beach with c15 White Wagtail, 2 Pied Wagtail and 21 Yellow Wagtail but no sign of the 2 Blue headed Wagtail from yesterday. With so many Wagtails together it was yet another challenge to get near enough for a decent shot, if one bird took off they would all go and move to a new area some distance away. The cyclists and dog walkers were in attendance along various points of the seawall which didn't help but I managed to get a few shots of these attractive birds.

Moving on I noted 1 Kestrel, 5 Great crested Grebe, 13 Linnet, 1 Gannet east, 7 Swallow, 3 Skylark and 5 Mute Swan. There were 2 Whitethroat, 1 Marsh Harrier, 4 Mallard, 1 Sedge Warbler just about heard above the wind and 1 Wheatear was on the grass behind the towers. I had a quick look inland on my way home and noted 11 Tufted Duck, 5 Gadwall, 1 Little Grebe and c30 Sand Martin.

  1. Only once found a White Wag here Marc, and only once found a spring Sedge warbler, not really enough cover here, but i'll be on the lookout :-)

Nice Wagtail shots BTW, they are a difficult species to get to look 'right' when photographing them :-)

  4. Many thanks Mick. As you say, I like the clean look as it was getting a bit too dark and depressing and quite cluttered. In this template I can still have all the blogs etc in the convenient right hand pop out bar.
