You Can Guess the Answer!

The forecast was for beautiful sunshine today and after seeing the Waxwing yesterday at Chambers Wall in dull conditions I was eager to hopefully get the chance to photograph this bird in all its glory in the sunshine. I had it all planned out. Frosty berry bushes with a Waxwing feeding happily at close range and photos galore. Everything worked out this morning except the Waxwing didn't turn up to play. As the title says, You could have guessed this would happen. All was not wasted though as the sunshine made for a beautiful walk out to Coldharbour and west along the seawall with Phil Parker. We met Steve Ashton and Tim Gutsell along the way and had a chat and met up again later to look for the Waxwing. Birds I noted before Phil arrived at Chamber Wall were 1 Long eared Owl as I sat drinking coffee in the car again, 2 Red legged Partridge, 1 Snipe and a few calling Fieldfare. It ended up being a pretty quiet morning ornithologically but we managed to note c30 Fieldfare, c50 Cormorant, 1 Water Rail, 10 Oystercatcher, 18 Sanderling, 2 Curlew, 8 Grey Plover, 1 Little Egret, 7 Turnstone, 9 Redshank and 1 juvenile Gannet flew east. Whilst photographing Stonechats with Steve and Tim 3 Snow Buntings flew west calling but did not stop.

Also seen were c25 Goldfinch providing a few shots in the morning sunshine, c100 Brent Geese offshore, 1 Marsh Harrier, 1 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Red legged Partridge, 2 Ring necked Parakeet and 4 Lesser Redpoll. You can't win them all I suppose. No doubt when I am at work tomorrow a flock will appear in the area in the sunshine. Hopefully I will get another chance during the winter months.
