With some sunshine forecast for this morning I arranged to meet Phil at the towers at Reculver and for the second time recently Phil was in position before me, he is a good boy. We had only been out of the car for a few seconds when 1 Brambling flew over calling and a few minutes later we were watching 1 Black Redstart on the rocks just west of the towers. It was initially cloudy but as the morning went on the sun eventually broke through to a nice morning. We walked on down to Coldharbour and back and noted 2 Curlew, c120 Brent Geese, 3 Rock Pipit, 2 Little Egret, 15 Meadow Pipit, 27 Swallow west, 25 Redshank, 2 Little Grebe, 10 Mute Swan, 1 Marsh Harrier, 5 Turnstone and 1 Shorelark was seen well on the shingle. Moving on we saw 6 Oystercatcher, 36 Ringed Plover, 5 Grey Plover, 5 Reed Bunting, 22 Mallard, 4 Redpoll and the 3 Snow Bunting were located feeding quietly on the shingle. I had just raised the camera when Phil decided to put his bag on the seawall making a right noise and scaring the Buntings off. Anyone out there with a book on fieldcraft should forward to Phil Parker as I think it would be of help to him! There were 4 Skylark, 47 Sanderling, 2 Dunlin, 4 Stonechat, 1 Grey Heron, 2 Shelduck and 3 late House Martin. I walked back a bit with Phil before deciding to spend some more time with the Snow Buntings. With no one else around I sat quietly on the seawall and they come within a few metres of me allowing a number of shots. Such great little birds and a photographers friend. With a few shots in the bag I made my way back to the towers and off home for some lunch.
