Teneral Female Hairy Dragonfly

With work seemingly dominating most of my time at the moment during the week, it is left to the weekends and the very occasional visit after work visit to see what dragonflies and damselflies are on offer. Hopefully this weekend will deliver a bit of warm sunshine so I can get back out again to photograph them and see a few new species for the year. Back to last weekend where I was able to photograph a teneral female Hairy Dragonfly which posed beautifully in the sunshine before making her maiden flight successfully. I do love to study the fresh wings on these teneral dragonflies and marvel at the work of art that they are, truly stunning. It won't be long now until my May challenge begins in ernest where I will try to find and photograph the Norfolk Hawker emerging in east Kent. I have had a few evening practice runs with the equipment and highlighted a few patches of reed where I think they will emerge from and so can't wait for the next week or so to possibly attempt this challenge. Hopefully, the camera will be kept busy over the weekend wherever I end up at.

  1. Great images, Marc, of a species of which I have, to date, only ever seen a male. Perhaps I'll manage to get that sorted this year. Best wishes - - - Richard

  3. Hi Marc, Your pictures make me think with the state of my physique I will have to cease climbing cliffs for the perigrines and crawl about in the grass for dragonflies. Mike.

    1. It's a lot safer in the grass I think compared to the cliffs. You even get to lay down on the job sometimes!!
