Love is in the Air!

With it being St Valentines Day and with the rain falling quite steadily outside this morning in east Kent, I thought I would have a look through the dragonfly files to see if I could find any 'love' within the photos. Whilst I'm sure the dragonflies and damselflies are not too happy with a camera being pointed in their direction when they are getting intimate in the undergrowth, it often produces quite good photo opportunities to capture the ongoing life cycle in action. Having also looked through the files this morning, its also made me aware what species I need to catch 'in the act' this year to fill a few gaps. Often when you find a pair mating, if you move slowly, you can get into a good position and fire off a good number of shots ( unless you are after Brown Hawkers!). I have managed in the past few years to observe and photograph a few species which I thought I would share on this romantic day! More from the odonata files soon.

Small Red Eyed Damselflies (mating pair)

Migrant Hawkers (mating pair)

Norfolk Hawkers (mating pair)

Blue tailed Damselflies (mating pair)

Common Darters (mating pair)

Hairy Dragonflies (mating pair)

  4. Wonderful images, great detail. As I look out my window at the snow, dragonflies seem like a fond memory.
