Migrants Everywhere

Whilst I was out yesterday for a couple of hours, there were a good showing of Migrant Hawkers around, some perched up, some flying up high and other patrolling up and down their territories. I do find this species quite approachable and with a bit of field craft, you can often get lovely views and plenty of photo opportunities. The trick I find is to try to find a few individuals that don't not have cluttered backgrounds which can take the eye away from the subject. Having said that, I couldn't find any like this but did find a few perched males and females which allowed me to fire off a few shots and capture the fine colours and details of this species. Fingers crossed, if we get some nice autumnal sunshine in the next few weeks, I can have another go with them and maybe find a showy flying individual to get a few shots of. Probably not out again till next weekend so hopefully the sun will shine next Saturday as I have most of the day to be out.

  1. I quite like the effect of the 3rd photo with the strong, brown vertical lines softened by the more ephemeral horizontal aspect of the wings.

  2. Got some quality shots there Marc, even if the Hawkers weren't hanging quite where you wanted them too! Your Dragon photographs always inspire me to get out and get some more for myself, even though I have scores of them LoL

  3. Hi Marc.
The 1st shot of the female is particularly good. The females don't get seen as often either it seems. Nice set as usual.

    1. Thanks Bob. Its not until you really look at the colours and markings that you really see they are amazing.
