With the weekend finally here and a little bit of time, I spent some time watching the dragonfly and damselfly nymphs in the tank and tried to find the Emperor Dragonfly nymph that had moulted in the week. When I last saw it a few days a go it was almost completely white and I wanted to see what had happened to it since then. After a brief search I soon found it and what a dramatic change had taken place. It had completed darkened in colour and looked really fresh and had grown in size from 12mm to 17mm since I have had it in the tank. I set up the photography tank and after adding a green leaf to the background and taking a few tester shots using manual mode, f11, ISO 400 and speed set to 250, I introduced the Emperor Dragonfly nymph to the tank. It happily sat on a small bit of weed where it posed for a number of shots and with the flash and light from my phone, the light worked out perfectly producing some nice shots of this fresh individual. I hope to follow this individual as it continues to grow and will hopefully be able to share more photos to show its progress towards becoming an adult Emperor Dragonfly.

ReplyDeleteI think the individual photographed above won't emerge until next year I think. I may be wrong but its got a lot of growing to do yet.
