Got the Shots!

After finishing work late tonight I thought I would have a quick drive over to Reculver to see if any butterflies were on the wing. Anyone reading my blog in the last few weeks will know I have been hoping to photograph an Orange Tip and specifically the underwing. These butterflies I think look brilliant and on arrival a few Green veined White were noted as was 1 Large White and 1 Comma. A few minutes into the walk and bingo, I spotted a male Orange Tip flying towards me and I hoped that with the temperature dropping, it would maybe be looking for a place to roost in the sunshine. Thankfully the plan came together as I followed for a bit and then it settled in some sunshine showing me the underwing. I spent a while firing off a number of very pleasing shots and as it moved from place to place, I was able to get some nice contrast with the background showing the butterfly off nicely in all its glory. If you don't like Orange Tip underwing shots, turn away now but hopefully if you do, you will see exactly why I think these butterflies are stunning to watch and photograph.

  8. Flat open wing orange tip pictures are very rare, great shots all of them. Hopefully some [Kent] people will come up for a greenie butterfly walk during the Glanville flight period [we have offered a visit for them, if they survived the harsh winter]. Lots of other decent butterflies will be around as well.

I still need to get video of orange tips, before they finish this year
