A Bit More Practice!

I called in at Reculver last night as the sun come out for a while and noted 1 Short eared Owl hunting over the Oyster farm but other than that, it was pretty quiet and not much for me to practice with the new camera. This morning I was up and out of the house at 4.30am where I had my usual drive around the area noting 1 Little Owl, 2 Red legged Partridge, 2 Ring necked Parakeet, 3 Mistle Thrush and a few singing Chiffchaff and Blackcap. The weather did not look that good for this morning and that proved to be the case as it mostly stayed cloudy but at least the wind was next to nothing. I walked from the towers down the seawall before walking inland to Chambers Wall and down to the car park before checking the bushes on the way back. Lots of birds feeding young which is nice to see and birds noted this morning were 1 Little Owl in the caravan park, 9 Whitethroat, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Curlew, 6 Shelduck, 16 Swallow with 2 pairs along the Wantsum where I spent some time taking photos and experimenting with settings. Considering the distance from the bird and the light the results were not too bad.

There were 8 Mediterranean Gull flying west calling, 24 Swift, 11 Meadow Pipit, 20 Oystercatcher, 7 Mallard, 6 Ringed Plover, 4 Sedge Warbler, 5 Reed Bunting, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Peregrine flew in off the sea, 4 Redshank, 6 Reed Warbler and 3 Yellow Wagtail. Other birds noted were 2 Marsh Harrier, 1 Eider offshore, 2 Common Sandpiper were in Coldharbour, 1 Cuckoo, 6 Tufted Duck, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Skylark, 13 House Martin and I had good views of a reeling Grasshopper Warbler near Chambers Wall crossing but it would not show well enough for any photo attempts. Looks like rain tomorrow but hopefully if the weather allows Friday I might have a visit to Denge Wood for the Duke of Burgundy.

  1. I'm not sure you need more practice with the new camera, it seems like it's pulling a lot more detail out of the bird's plumages, they look really good.

  3. Good luck for Friday Marc. Frustrating not have at least some conditions in your favour to try out the new Camera. It seems to be in expert hands though ;-)
