We're On Our Way!

With a bit of sunshine before work I called into Reculver to check the rocks around the car park to see if any migrants had arrived overnight. Within a few seconds I could hear Rock Pipits calling and quickly located 4 birds including 1 Scandinavian Rock Pipit. I tried to get a few shots but they remained very wary but at least managed a record shot of these smart birds.

A quick walk further on produced 4 Oystercatcher, 3 Redshank, 1 Skylark, 6 Meadow Pipit, 1 Stonechat, 2 Grey Plover, 10 Linnet, 3 Turnstone and 14 Brent Geese. A call to Chris Hindle at the end of the day had news arriving that Derek Smith had seen 3 Wheatears along the seawall at Reculver. A while later I pulled up and walked along the seawall where I was joined by Chidders. Birds noted were 1 Wheatear (116), a cracking male, 1 Stonechat, 3 Kittiwake east, c150 Brent Geese, 4 Shelduck and distantly 1 Barn Owl was seen hunting. Before driving home I looked inland and noted 7 Tufted Duck, 2 Little Grebe, 2 Teal and 1 Grey Heron. Hopefully a Black Redstart will be next in the week!
