I had it all planned out this morning that around mid morning I would drive over to Stodmarsh and have the reserve to myself as anyone wanting to catch up with the Penduline Tit would have during the weekend. How wrong I was for as I arrived in the car park at Stodmarsh at 11am the car park was full to brimming point. My quiet plans went straight out of the window! I soon arrived on the boardwalk through the alder wood to a number of birders but the good news was the Penduline Tit was showing well albeit a little distant at first. I spent the next 3 and a half hours drinking coffee, taking lots of photos of this beauty and talking to birders. It would feed for 15 minutes or so before flying up to a bush to preen, then return after 10 minutes to carry on feeding. It did this all the while I was there which made for some excellent scope views and occasionally when it come a bit closer some chances of a photo in the lovely sunshine. After taking enough photos I moved on already having seen 3 Common Buzzard, 4 Marsh Harrier, 1 Tawny Owl calling, 2 Water Rail and 2 Siskin. A very enjoyable few hours in glorious weather and a showy bird, awesome.

ReplyDeleteSounds like a great day Marc. Top photos, as always. Quite envious. Originally aimed to go down on Saturday but had plans scuppered. Hope it stays until at least next weekend as I'm hoping to escape domestic drudgery for a visit!
