The Dreaded Message!

It was not until break time yesterday at school that I thought I had better check my phone in case there were any messages on it. Anyone who has been following the blog will know I have been kind of obsessed about finding a Wryneck at Reculver in the past few years. It was then that I opened up the message from Chris Hindle to find the words 'Wryneck at Reculver'. I was stuck at work and had to wait hours until finishing before I had the chance to go and see if it was still around. I had arranged to meet Chidders and after a walk to Chambers Wall crossing we spent an hour or so bashing the bushes, literally! We managed to see a few birds including 1 Common Redstart but try as we did we could find the star bird. It had probably moved on but a further check of the bushes did reveal 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 4 Blackcap, 5 Chiffchaff, 4 Long tailed Tit. I left for home with this mythical bird still not on my Reculver list. I managed to grab an hour or so at Reculver today (26th) in the hope that the Wryneck would have felt pity on me and showed itself, of course it didn't. I walked down to the sea again from Chambers Wall checking the bushes again. I did see 2 Common Redstart, 4 Blackcap, 1 Spotted Flycatcher which posed briefly for a photo, 3 Gadwall, 3 Long tailed Tit, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 3 Ring necked Parakeet, 2 Kestrel, 10 Meadow Pipit, 10 Swallow including 1 juvenile bird which posed beautifully in the brief spells of sunshine allowing a few pleasing shots and 1 Sand Martin. There were 2 Sandwich Tern, 1 Wheatear, 1 Turnstone, 1 Great spotted Woodpecker, 1 Jay, 1 Siskin and 1 Redpoll. With a few goodies further north on the east coast, hopefully Reculver will get a few birds in the next few days, preferably when I am able to get out to see them.

  3. Close Marc, but not quite close enough, Doesn't the time drag at work when there are migrants out there waiting for you! Still time for a Wryneck yet though :-)
