Close with the Godwits

With the darker mornings starting to happen I did not leave the house until 6.15am this morning where I then drove down to Reculver. With a west north westerly wind forecast I was not sure whether to go bush bashing or look at the sea. In the end I opted to park by the towers and walk down the seawall to Coldharbour and check the bushes before returning back along the seawall. The sun soon come through giving a lovely morning although a little chilly on the coast. Bird wise it was quite quiet but I can't really complain with the last few days birding. Birds seen were 9 Chiffchaff, 4 Goldcrest, 75 Meadow Pipit west, 18 Pied Wagtail, 10 Cormorant, 4 Kestrel, 3 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 15 Redshank, 26 Ringed Plover, c50 Linnet, 6 Oystercatcher, 11 Turnstone, 6 Golden Plover, 1 Mediterranean Gull on the foreshore with Black headed Gulls and 3 Bar tailed Godwits provided the mornings entertainment with the camera. I spent about 20 minutes sitting on the beach watching them and they gave great close views. At Chambers Wall I met Derek Smith and we worked the bushes not seeing that much and soon after Chris and Anne Hindle arrived. After a chat I wandered back seeing 1 Common Redstart by the railway crossing. There were 15 Swallow, 3 Reed Bunting, 1 Great spotted Woodpecker, 3 Blackcap, 18 Siskin west, 1 Kingfisher, 5 Wigeon, 4 Brent Geese west and 2 Sanderling. Back at the towers the wind seemed to have come round more to the north so I spent 30 minutes seawatching not seeing much except 8 Sandwich Tern and a few Ringed Plover and Turnstone. Before going home I had a few minutes looking at the bushes by the caravan park and saw 6 Red Admiral, 4 Migrant Hawker, 1 Common Darter and 1 Willow Emerald Damselfly.
