Back for Sunrise

I hadn't planned on going out this morning but having woke up early this morning and seeing there was a chance of a showy sunrise, I quickly set about getting ready and drove over to Nethergong to see if I could find any Banded Demoiselles to photograph. After a brief search in the reeds, I luckily found a male Banded Demoiselle and carefully placed it on some grass. It felt distinctly autumn like this morning with a chill in the air and as I prepared the tripod and camera and set up, I got a soaking from the wet grass around me. As sunrise approached, there was an annoying line of cloud from the horizon meaning that I would have to wait for the sun to get high enough before I could start photographing. This meant that the fantastic colours produced at sunrise would be lost but I hoped that I would be able to still produce some pleasing images. Around 5.10am, the sun started to rise and some colours could be seen over the line of cloud which enabled me to start firing off a number of images. By moving slightly every now and again to change the angle of the shot and light, I was able to use the conditions to my advantage and despite not having the sunrise I wanted, I ended up with some half decent images, certainly worth getting up early for anyway. I shall continue to monitor the sunrises and sunsets and hopefully return to photograph this superb event again.

  4. Amazing stuff again, Marc. I very much like the last image, with more colour, and detail showing on the grass. You've started me getting ideas!

  5. I do love that last image especially. The subtle, blurred bands of color in the background set off the crispness of the dewy demoiselle. Plus you have the beauty of the transmitted light through the wings yet still managed to show some reflected light off the grass and the body! Amazing. Again. :-)
