'Small' Surprises

With the sun shining after work yesterday but a 20mph wind blowing, it wasn't the ideal way to spend an hour or so looking for dragonflies at Westbere Lakes but I hoped I would be able to find a few sheltered areas. I couldn't find any Norfolk Hawkers in the dykes as I passed but I expect a couple were probably taking shelter in the reeds. Along the river there were a few Banded Demoiselle and after a few minutes I arrived at a good sheltered area where there was 1 Norfolk Hawker flying around along with 1 Brown Hawker. The Brown Hawker tried to land on a few occasions but as ever with this species it seems, it was soon back on the wing and never gave me a sniff of a photo opportunity. A check of the lily pads revealed a few Small Red eyed Damselfly along with plenty of Blue tailed Damselflies but not that much for the camera. After a good look around I decided to walk back and this proved a good decision as a Small Red eyed Damselfly was seen near the footpath which posed quite nicely for photographs from a few different angles. He soon moved on thanks to the wind and I made my way back seeing a probable Southern Hawker near the railway line. I spent a few hours out this morning from 6am in the sunshine where I took a few photos which I shall post tomorrow when I have a little more time.

  1. Love the detail on the close ups Marc :-)

Those Brown Hawkers do tease! They look like they are just about to land, then move on again, LoL
