'Shore' Good at Reculver!

After photographing the Desert Wheatear yesterday at Reculver I had a walk down to see if I could see and maybe photograph the Shorelark. Along with the Black Redstart and Snow Bunting, the Shorelark is a bit of a Reculver specialty, some years there are none but others a few birds may stay and winter. With a lot of birders in the area yesterday the Shorelark was soon found and although a little tricky to photograph as it was a little wary, I managed a few shots as it moved along the ridge, the nice blue sky making for a nice background to show off the striking face pattern.

Hopefully it will remain in the area and with a quieter Reculver in the next few days and weeks, I may get another chance to photograph this bird at close quarters. I returned to Reculver this afternoon as blue skies and light winds were forecast and after looking at my shots from yesterday I thought some of the shots of the Desert Wheatear were blown out and slightly over exposed. Along with the locals and a good few others I soon settled in near the rocks for a couple of hours where we were treated to a superb display by the Desert Wheatear and I took a few more hundred shots. I will hopefully post these images throughout the week, fingers crossed when I look at them that I have some better images of this stunning showy bird.

    1. All were very well behaved watching the Desert Wheatear keeping a respectable distance. Not quite so with the Shorelark I believe which seemed to be moved around a bit.

    1. Reculver does offer some excellent light and a few good opportunities as well. If it hangs around you will have to ask Dave B for a lift down here for a visit.
