A 'Tern' Up for the Day!

With the forecast not looking that good with rain and a brisk wind and the fact I didn't want to get a soaking I opted to stay in this morning and earn some points. After getting up I took one of my daughters to karate and on the way back called in at Reculver for 30 minutes to see what was about. It was still raining but not that heavy so just opted for a walk around the towers, checking the rocks and bushes. I was hoping as it was high tide that maybe a Common Sandpiper or Common Tern would be around. As I scanned the rocks I could see a distant white bird sitting on the last rock so made my way down to the area where on arrival I was able to confirm my first 2 Common Tern of the year, always a nice sight and sound to see them back. The photo below was taken a couple of years back as the camera didn't even come out with me this morning, such was the doom and gloom with the weather.

Common Tern

Other bits noted were 2 Pied Wagtail, 2 Goldfinch, 2 House Martin west, 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Whitethroat and 5 Turnstone. Hopefully out in the morning early listening for whatever wants to sing in my ears and maybe pick up a year tick or two, Chris had a Grasshopper Warbler singing this morning so I hope it hangs around for tomorrow, and with a few thousand Arctic Tern past Dungeness today, maybe some will pass Reculver, we shall have to see!
