Caravan Park Strikes Again!

With a few good birds in the country at the moment I was keen to get out this morning and have a good search around Reculver, hoping that I would bump into that rare one! I had a brief drive around in the growing light hearing 1 Grey and 1 Red legged Partridge and a few Skylark and Golden Plover. With a couple of Yellow browed Warbler in the caravan park area I drove over to the towers and after parking up and having a cup of tea was joined by Julian where we walked up to the caravan park for a look around. A few Chiffchaff were calling and Julian saw a Little Owl flying out of sight. With a light north west wind it felt good for a few birds today. We were soon joined by the Yellow browed king, Derek Smith and a few minutes later we picked up on a small bird moving through the trees on the southern side of the caravan park. Most of us got onto it and thankfully it was a Yellow browed Warbler, we had good but brief views before it flew out of sight. We didn't see it again but later I returned before I went home and had some nice views and even managed a shot as it before it moved off out of sight. Not the best shot I will ever take but they are tricky little birds to get on to and never seem to stop.

Other birds in the Caravan park area were 1 Blackcap, 1 Peregrine unsuccessfully chased Woodpigeons and c10 Song Thrush flew out of the bushes. We then went our own ways, I decided to walk down the seawall to Coldharbour and inland to Chambers Wall hoping for a few grounded migrants and maybe some vis mig. Birds noted were 2 Kingfisher, 9 Chiffchaff, 2 Grey Heron, 13 Sandwich Tern east, 1 Grey Wagtail, c80 Brent Geese west, 4 Turnstone, 4 Ringed Plover, 4 Oystercatcher, 3 Little Egret, 18 Redshank, 15 Reed Bunting and 3 Stonechat. There were 2 Rock Pipit, 1 Little Grebe, 4 Pintail, c200 Gadwall, Wigeon and Teal distantly offshore, c70 Mallard, 2 Sparrowhawk, 43 Golden Plover, 8 Skylark and a walk along the embankment with Derek and Tim produced c60 Siskin, c70 Chaffinch and 1 Mistle Thrush west. As I made my way back along the coast it was nice to see 5 Swallow flying west. Other bits noted were a few Whites, 1 Red Admiral, c10 Common Darter and a few Migrant Hawker. Not the mega I was hoping for but nice to see a good variety of birds moving through the area.
